I'd like to write a little about my overall plan for this new site. It's very much a work in progress right now, and likely always will be. But even though I'm still figuring out the details, I do have a general plan.
The main focus is, of course, to be a place to share my art and projects with the world. I'll maintain a gallery to post some of my art pieces, and to serve as my online portfolio. I'm not necessarily trying to get commissions or freelance work, but it's definitely not out of the question either! Gotta make money however and whenever I can, right?
For my longer projects like illustration sets and comics, I think I may share them as blog posts. I'll have to figure out how to make navigation clear and easy for my visitors, but I'm sure I can figure something out.
For the moment I don't have any plans for trying to make larger, more technically complex projects like animations or video games. That doesn't mean they're out of the question though. As a consumer and art appreciater, I love animations and video games. So it's possible in the future I'll expand into learning and creating within those mediums.
One long-term goal I have for this site is building and maintaining a shop. This will potentially be the most complicated and expensive part of the site. I'm not really sure how to best go about it. For now, I just have links to my Ko-fi page. Not ideal, because it takes visitors away from my main site, but for now it's an easy and serviceable enough solution. I quite like Ko-fi, I think they did a great job designing their platform, and their annual gold-member plan is only like $54. That is way, way cheaper than other competing online shop platforms. Plus you can get simple tips from supporters on Ko-fi, it's awesome.
Learning web-dev and coding is another big focus for this site. Part of this is my own desire for complete control of my work, and independence from all the large social-media and other big corporate platforms that currently control most of the internet. The enshittification pattern that large platforms follow is so easy and clear to see happening in real time, once you understand how it works and why they do it. I'm not sure practically speaking how far I can take things all into my own control online. I'd love to eventually self-host this site on my own home-run server, but that's a fairly complicated road to go down that I'm not at all ready to begin going down right now. Maybe someday I'll learn to setup and run my own server, but for now I have no choice but to go with established hosting services like everyone else. Best to learn one thing at a time.
Writing and sharing my thoughts on a blog has been something I've wanted for a while. I did have a wordpress site and blog for a short time, before ditching wordpress due to their pricing and the actions of their shit CEO. More about that later I guess. But during the brief time I had my wordpress blog, I found I quite liked writing my plans and thoughts onto it. I've always been hesitant to share my thoughts online, just due to toxicity of much of the online populace. I've especially avoided politics and letting out my thoughts online, but in real life I'm very much a progressively driven political person.
Okay, that's all for now!
